My new audiobook is available

George Orwell, like many other intellectuals, including notably Ernest Hemingway, became in the early 1940s part of the drive to fight the Fascist menace in the Spanish Civil War. He detailed his experiences in his novel “Homage to Catalonia”. And this post deals with my narration of that audiobook.

Hemingway is perhaps more famous for using his Spanish experiences as fuel to formulate his own classic novel, which was later made into a film, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”.

Some of these anti-fascists became fighters, some became medics like Hemingway, while others, such as Hemingway’s wife Martha Gellhorn, reported on the war.

Orwell fought on the Spanish front line (when the opportunity arose) but much of his time, as in all conflicts, was spent tracking enemy movements and resting and preparing for the fight .

The writer records his time in Spain away from the front, at rest and relaxation in Barcelona, where his wife joined him. However, the time didn’t turn out to be so restful for them and this is dealt with in the novel.

While my previously recorded audiobooks were for LibriVox, my latest, “Homage to Catalonia” by George Orwell, is for Legamus.eu

The site is hosted in Europe, unlike LibriVox, which is a US site. Legamus means Europeans like me, can record narration for books they could not record for the US because of copyright.

The original text of this recording is in the Public Domain, in countries where copyright expires 70 years or less after the author’s death, but it is still protected by copyright in the USA and some other countries. Please check the copyright law of your country before downloading.

Thanks must go to my ever dependable proof listener Lynette and the owner of the Legamus site, Viktor.

I hope you can find some time to listen and enjoy it.

You can download the audiobook here but again, please check the copyright law of your country before doing so.
