The Feast

We had a number of prompts to go at in our writing group last week and I chose The Feast

It’s a classic and has been around for many years. And that’s the sign of a big seller. I like that, because if plenty of other people buy them… I know I’m onto a winner.

I love the fact that the chocolate on the Feast goes a little bit misty, a bit frosty, when i’ve unsheathed it, fresh from a freezer.

The nibbly nuts on it gives some crispy crunchy fibre to the teeth, but pleasingly these kernels aren’t too big and not the sort that stick in the throat and make me cough.

Frankly eating an ice cream with whole Brazil nuts, walnuts, and hazelnuts embedded in the chocolate could be a crunch too far. “You must be choking”, I hear you say.

The ice cream on a Feast is always firm and delicious. I like it when big pieces of the chocolate coating slide off the sweetened frozen dessert made from milk or cream, (as long as they don’t fall on the ground!) leaving the vanillacious ice cream undressed and waiting for me to sink my (soon to be) agonised teeth into it.

It could be my wild imagination, but I’m sure there used to be a mint Feast as well.

I desperately sought some corroboration, so I turned to the Internet and found a Reddit poster, two years ago in the sub-Reddit r/ukfood who said they (and a colleague) had searched high and low for a mint feast ice cream but couldn’t track one down.

Several other users suggested various substitutes from ALDI and Iceland, but not even the mention of a mint cornetto was enough to slake the spearminty thirst of user Effective-Ball261. Sadly, the mint feast appears to have finally left the building.

I don’t remember the Feast making me thirsty like a Magnum does. It doesn’t really matter which flavour, I’m convinced there’s more salt in a Magnum than there is in a Feast but … you’ll be the judge of that.

This surfeit of sodium is a conspiracy of confectionery companies who cunningly encourage us to buy sugary drinks to quench the thirst that the Magnum has sadly endowed its lovers with, and in the words of Liz Truss, “That’s an absolute disgrace!”

There’s only one thing left to add…. in the forthcoming UK council elections, don’t forget … Vote Feast!
